Boxing Through The Ages: A Still Life
This was originally a school project in which we had to make and take photos of a still life. I knew going into this project that I didn’t want to take pictures of just anything. I wanted to focus on something I was passionate about, so I landed on a boxing concept. Boxing is something I’ve been passionate about for the past few years. It’s a form of exercise that I don’t absolutely dread, but more importantly, it’s something that my father and I share. He boxed throughout college—his champion jacket and an old article on him are featured below. Someone both he and I look up to, as boxers and as Muslims, is the one and only Muhammad Ali. In the tribute magazine of him seen below, you can see the parallels between Ali’s stance and my dad’s, demonstrating the inspiration that Ali was to him. They both became inspirations to me, and my own set of gloves and wraps are shown along side my father’s jacket and Muhammad Ali’s image. With this project, I aimed to portray how boxing has been handed down through the years—from Muhammad Ali, to my father, to me.
